Construction Updates: History and Future - From a Church to a Wedding Venue

The building that will soon be the North Spring Ballroom, a wedding and event venue in downtown Everett, Pennsylvania, dates back to 1843 and boasts 30' vaulted ceilings, expansively beautiful brick throughout the interior and stained-glass windows with the most vibrant colors! This brick beauty served as a church for its entire life until suffering a devastating fire in 2021, leaving the congregation temporarily without a place of worship. Because a church is made of its people and not its structure, they merged with another congregation and placed the building up for sale.

We purchased the building in 2023 with the intention of turning it into apartment homes. After working with a contractor and an engineer, we determined that the cost to bring that idea to fruition was out of our budget. Owning an event venue has always been a dream of mine and so the North Spring Ballroom was born!

The church had been remodeled to add some classrooms and a youth room on the second floor. To make this space work for us, we removed the second floor and all interior walls, creating one, big, beautiful open space. Some impressively high ceilings in this building had been hidden over the years to increase heat efficiency; it has been a pleasure exposing those as well to reveal the magnificent ceiling underneath.

The Future:

The plan for the finished space will include:

  • Spray foam insulation on the entire ceiling and the few walls that are not brick to maximize heating & cooling efficiency

  • All new electrical, plumbing, & HVAC

  • Refinishing the vaulted ceiling beams and cleaning up where support had been added over the years

  • Cleaning up the brick to remove any residual plaster

  • Installing a new hardwood floor that will look like it has always been in this space

In addition, we have plans for stylish restrooms, a functional bar area, and a licensed kitchen. Unfortunately, the stained-glass windows must go. They are brittle and broken in several places. Don't fret though, we have a plan for those too! We don't want to spoil that surprise, but we intend to keep the stained glass in the building it was made for forever!

We recently purchased another property with a liquor license and have transferred that license to the North Spring Ballroom. This addition allows us to offer full-service bar packages to our clients for their events, as well as host some of our own public events in this space. We see line dancing, casino nights, comedy clubs, and more happening here!
